 Bobby Knight, whose full name is Robert Montgomery Knight, is a prominent figure in the world of college basketball. He was born on October 25, 1940, in Massillon, Ohio, USA. Knight's life history is marked by his successful coaching career, as well as his controversial and often polarizing coaching style.

Early Life:

Bobby Knight grew up in Orrville, Ohio, and displayed a strong passion for sports from a young age. He attended Orrville High School, where he excelled in basketball and earned a scholarship to play for Ohio State University. At Ohio State, Knight was a key player on the basketball team and helped lead them to a national championship in 1960.

Coaching Career:

After his college playing career, Bobby Knight transitioned into coaching. He began as an assistant coach at Cuyahoga Falls High School before moving on to become an assistant coach at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. In 1971, he was named the head coach of the Indiana University Hoosiers, a position that would become the centerpiece of his career.

During his tenure at Indiana University, Knight became one of the most successful and respected college basketball coaches in history. He led the Hoosiers to three NCAA national championships in 1976, 1981, and 1987. His teams were known for their disciplined and fundamentally sound style of play. Knight's coaching philosophy emphasized defense, teamwork, and strong fundamentals.

While Bobby Knight achieved tremendous success as a coach, he was also known for his fiery and often controversial temper. In 2000, Knight was fired from his coaching position at Indiana University after a series of disciplinary issues and controversies, both on and off the court. His firing marked the end of his long and storied tenure at the school.


Later Career:

After leaving Indiana University, Bobby Knight continued to coach, taking on positions at Texas Tech University and later at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He recorded his 900th career win as a coach during his time at Texas Tech. Knight retired from coaching in 2008.
